Hi there
A little while ago, in one of Webusers user recommendations, someone suggested using Iobits Advanced Window Care 2 program. I downloaded it from their site, and was impressed by the speedy way it sorted out registry problems, scanned for junk mail and even helped against spyware all in one. So, I decided to download their defrag program too. So far, so good. Until today...
I went to run my defrag today, after my Avast antivirus had updated itself. Imagine my astonishment, when I got told there was a trojan in the program! And on quarantining it, listed that there was a rootkit in there too!
The information is as follows:
Win32: Delf-KMP [Trj] Win32: Rootkit-gen [Rtk]
I've checked versions 4 and 5 of the disk defragger, and in trying to run or install either of them, it flags up trojans. It also found the same problem with the Advanced Windows Care 2 program.
Now, one program I'd put down to a false positive. But three different programs by the same company, involving both trojan horses and rootkits? And the same rootkits flagged up in each program? A bit more than coincidental!
So I thought I'd better warn anyone using these programs. Anyone using an Iobit product downloaded in the last few months at least, should get in contact with Iobit (as I did) or run an immediate scan for trojans and rootkits... just in case!
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has run into the same problem, and if anyone thinks it's either a compromised website, or a false positive. Personally, I'd love to think it's an FP (I liked those programs) but until I'm sure, I won't be downloading them again... Avast even found the trojans in the system restore of Iobits programs, and the original downloads from the site, so I'm taking no chances...

Seems you're not alone.

Well I've been keeping an eye on Iobit's own forum, and it does indeed look like it was an FP... and having downloaded AVC 2.7.2 again, Avast allowed me to install it without any problems.
Still, wouldn't be the first time I've had an FP through security software, doubt it'll be the last
