Whenever I use MS Word (or other Office programs) and click the 'x' to shut down I get the following messages
'MS Word stopped' 'MS tring to recover your information' 'MS Word restarting'
It then reopens. The only way to stop it is to press the 'cancel' button on the messages. It has also happened with PowerPoint.
Any ideas short of a reinstall? I'm using Vista Ultimate on a Sony Vaio laptop.

Have you installed the latest updates?
If not, go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update and click on "Other Microsoft Products" or similar wording near the middle/bottom of the screen (I'm not on a Vista machine at the moment so I'm unsure of the wording).

If everything is up to date all I can suggest is the compatibility pack to access the new filename extensions. They are now four characters long, here http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-...3.mspx?mfr=true
Here is the compatibility pack http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en
