Hi, Anyone suggset a decent download manager that will allow me to restart files that are not completed in one go? Madasafish cuts out after 2 hours and I need to download the new AVG free anti virus software which looks as though it's going to take approx 4 hours to get ondial up. I tried an old manager that I used to use but it doesn't work and stops other programs from working.
Thanks
G

The manager that failed was Freshdownload. I've tried downloading another recommended one from a popular recognised site which hosts lots of software and after doing so and it takig 30 minutes, I was told to do it again as the program was setup was corrupt.
I'm debating whether to go back to Avast free anti virus as at this rate I may not be covered by AVG if I cannot get past downloading and saving a complete program.
I also have two pc's(One using Vista and one XP)and I'd like to have a program that can be used on bith depending on which I decide to go online with. Can I put AVG and/or Avast on both pc's or at least say AVG on one and Avast on the other?
Anyone have any experiences regarding the above?
When I purchased my pc late last year it had AVG on it and my old pc that was reformatted and came back as new, it had it on that one as well but since getting both ythe older one has not been used to connect to the net and been used mainly for tasks that does not require to connect to the web and I'm unsure that I am allowed to have AVG on more than one machine at one time.
Thanks again

Gildersleeve , have you not got a friend , neighbor or relative close by ? Get them to download the AVG executable file/s and copy it to CD for you.

Is it the free versions we're talking about ?
You can have any combination you want , although it would be best to have the same app on each pc just so you're familiar with what you're using.
If you're going to stick with AVG , then get a separate copy of the installer file for each pc.

This link item 1251 ....explains what may have went wrong and suggests a couple of download managers. I can't however comment on them as I've never used either.

That's a good idea...I'm thinking I could ask on my general forum that I help run(not computer related)if a fellow poster might do that for me...of course I should go onto broadband. Problem solved.
I may drop Madasafish and pay an extra £5 or is it £10 and then if I join Sky's Broadband package it's like getting net access or Sky as a bonus as the way I am doing things at present paying for Sky and Madasafish. Or better yet invest in the new Freesat launched today that offers free tv and radio and money saved on Sky subs could be put to broadband.

I'm hoping this will work with Vista and thanks...I'll have a go at downloading it tonight, if it works that may do the trick and allow me access to the AVG upgrade and as I have a few weeks before the new version of AVG Free Virus checker kicks in it will not matter if I do not get the program immediately. As the manager will save what I already have downloaded.
I appreciate the help.
I did download Avast as an alternative which seems to have worked ok but like so many I always have used AVG and found it pretty good.
Last year AVG did something similar and my pc would not download the new version whatever I did so I used Avast. But when I purchased the new pc and had the old one reformatted my repairman had installed AVG on both machines again.

I try not to kid people and glad you like it, it's simple and easy to use isn't it?
If you use Firefox as your web browser then I suggest using the FlashGot extension it works perfectly with FDM
