cannot find internet options
      #330651 - Mon Feb 05 2007 12:24 PM

it is a long time since I cleared out temp. internet files and cookies, but cannot get access to Internet Options on my XP Pro system. When I go to Control Panel there is no Int. Options there. There just does not appear to be access anywhere, even Windows Support directs me to Int. options. Can anyone asist. Thanks Cauldbum

Top of your browser page, click on:

Tools>>Internet Options>>Delete Cookies, then Delete Files.

And then I recommend using C Cleaner which is a free program and works wonders in clearing these things out, along with lots of other rubbish that hangs around your computer.

You can set it to keep what cookies you want and get rid of the rest, as well as clearing all temporary files and sorting out pointers left by deleted programs.

Run it often (automatically if you like) to keep your computer in good order.

Are you running IE6 or IE7? If it's IE7, you probably won't have the File, Edit, View etc at the top of the browser. You can get it back temporarily by pressing the Alt key or go to Tools, on the right hand side near the top. You can access Internet Options there by clicking on the little down arrow; you can also tick Menu Bar to make it visible.
I've got IE7 and have Internet Options in my Control Panel; I suppose it's always been there, but I can't remember! Have you got your Control Panel set to Classic or Category View? In Category View, you'll find Internet Options under Network and Internet Connections.
You can also clear out your Temporary Internet Files by using Disk Cleanup - Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools. If you want to, you can set IE to clear your TIFs when you close the browser. Once you've found your Internet Options (!), click on the Advanced tab, scroll down to Security and tick "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed", Apply and OK it.

Thanks again to Webusers for info, my main problem was that I am using Wanadoo/0range and had no visual toolbar showing tools. I had to go to Google and bring up internet options and clear that way. during this I managed to bring up the orange tool bar also. Main thing is I got there.
I do have C cleaner etc but tend not to use as I am terrified I will do more harm than good. I will check out Madeline's suggestions and see how I get on.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on! I know what you mean about CCleaner, so if you use it, don't use the Issues part. In the Windows and Applications sections, you can untick anything you'd rather that CCleaner ignores. As Nerval said, you can set it to keep any cookies you need by going to Options>Cookies. Alternatively, you could just untick the Cookies box under Windows; if you've got Firefox, you can untick cookies in FF under Applications.
