kodak cx4300 transfer probs
      #67969 - Fri May 14 2004 04:25 PM

i've got a kodak cx4300 digital camera and the problem i'm having is transferring my photos onto the pc. In the past i've connected up the lead that came with it to the computer(as i havent got a card reader or the docking system) open the lens which switches on the power and it gives you the option to transfer all at once or one at a time) but this is not happening. all that is happening is a box appears in the bottom right of the pc screen saying collecting data then nothing happens... any ideas as i dont fancy spending £60 on a dock....cheers

I had a Kodak MC3 which had a similar problem, there was nothing I could do so in the end I got a card reader cheap on eBay.
Until you give up though, try clicking on "my computer" with the camera switched on and plugged in to see if it is recognised as a removable drive. You may be able to access the pictures that way.

I too had the same issues with my DX4900, even after reinstalling the software. In the end I attached the camera to my PC and turned it on as normal, then I went into hardware manager (I use XP and this is done by right clicking on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager - You do not state what O/S you use and so you will need to check) I then highlighted the camera and deleted it from the system.

Then I removed the camera, the USB lead, then reattached it and turned the camera on. XP then kicked in saying that it had found the camera and would I like to use the Windows camera & scanner wizard - clicked on 'yes' and away I went.

Not quite the same as Kodak's own software (for example you will need to delete the photos from the card manually unlike letting the software do it but so what) then download (if you do not already have it) Irfanview to view, edit etc. and then vist This Site to get instructions on how to use Irfan (that said a kiddy could easily master it)

By the way - you could have one last shot with Kodak. go to http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=9/150/130&pq-locale=en_GB and try and download the driver for your camera

good luck

SD

Same problem with the DX3700 - same solution but I went one stage further and deleted everything in the registry pertaing to Kodak. Incidentally the Microsoft wizard does allow deletion after downloading - put a tick in the radio button on the second page 'Delete pictures from my device after copying them'.

Greysts

Thinking back I also went into the registry and got rid of everything to do with kodak.

Thanks for the tip re the radio button to delete the images direct - will try it next time

I'm no expert on this, only having one "proper" digital camera and a cheap Kodak toy.

My experience though is that you're often better off ignoring the software that comes with the camera. Just install the drivers and then use "Drag & Drop" to copy the images where you want them.

To do it this way you need to find the "Removable Drive" in Windows Explorer, so if your problem is that it's not there this isn't much help.

As for card readers, I think PicStop do them from about £10.

I needed a 256MB memory card a while ago. Dixons (who say their prices can't be beaten) wanted £140, so I ordered exactly the same thing from Picstop for just under £56 including postage. I could have paid extra for guaranteed next day delivery, but it arrived the next day anyway.

I know where I'll go in future, and they advertise in W.U.

alright, found this in windws help, actually. Windows XP will detect my cx4300 ans call it a dx4300 which makes it useless. anyway i went to help and support and typed in camera. the first option is get pictures....choose this. follow the instructions after notes, starting with To open scanners and cameras.... I only did this once and now everytime i hit the transfer button on my dock the camera wizard comes up yay, hope this helps. if u have prbs email me at xxxxxxxxx@yyyyyyy.
