Hello all,
I have recently set up a wireless network consisting of a Zoom X6 router and a wireless USB adapter found Here
Since setting this up every time there is any music playing on my pc i.e. through media player or within a game, the music 'stutters' every 60 seconds. It's as if the CPU usage shoots up to 100% for approx 4 seconds and then reverts back to normal.
Has anybody experienced anything like this before?
Do routers broadcast a signal that could interfere with sound every 60 seconds?
I did try changing the default channel number on the router after searching Google but this had no effect on the 'stuttering'

Did you install Vista on an existing computer or buy a new computer with it preloaded?

Hi,
It was installed onto an existing computer.
I did wonder if the problem was Vista indexing my files so I disabled this feature but, alas, no joy.
Think it's definitely something to do with the router/adapter as the problem doesn't occur when the router is switched off or the USB adapter is unplugged!

The reason I asked about your operating system is your signature contains a reference to Vista Home Basic x64. I don't understand why you would install the fairly featureless Vista Basic on a powerful 64bit PC?
Anyway, it may appear that the router is interfering with your sound but I would bet it's software that's causing it, probably the USB adapter. To rule out the router and implicate the adapter software, plug in the Ethernet cable and see if it's the same.

Hi Burr,
Yes, the sound is fine with the Ethernet cable plugged in and the wireless adapter unplugged 
Ok, any suggestions about what to do with the adapter?

Seriously, the adapter has 2 good and 2 bad reviews so draw your own conclusions.
Do you have any electrical equipment close to the computer/adapter?
Bear in mind with wireless that all sorts of things can affect the signal to differing degrees; steel radiators, monitors, telephones, microwaves, need I go on.
I don't wish to make a recommendation but on the same site (Ebuyer) there are adapters costing about £25 which might be a better buy. Make sure they are 'Vista ready'.
Edit: I may have done your adapter a slight injustice. Before buying another one, go to Windows Update to check for a driver for it.

Confirmed. The adapter is dodgy.
Just borrowed another adapter, plugged it in and there are no problems with the sound at all!!
I'll try and return it to Ebuyer and purchase a different one.
