Wireless modem/router to another wireless router/accesspoint?
      #242025 - Thu Dec 01 2005 10:04 AM

Hi...here it goes.

My new ISP has provided me with a preinstalled SpeedTouch 716v5 wireless modem/router which works fine and has me happily connected...however

The signal from the Speedtouch is weak and doesnt reach my bedroom.

With my previous connection I had a dlink modem connected to a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router/access point and the signal would reach all corners of the house.

My question is
Can I connect the Speedtouch to the Linksys so as to use the Speedtouch strictly as a modem that feeds internet to the Linksys as the router?

If I can - how do I?

Or is there any other way of boostin the wireless signal without spending money?

Thanks for your help in advance

Alternatively, what commands could I use from ??
http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/downloads/716/r5/ST716v5_CLIguide.pdf

to make the speedtouch strictly a modem only.
I guess I would also need to do a few things to the linksys to make it 'talk' to the speedtouch

Why not forget the speedtouch altogether and use your old ADSL setup. You'll need the correct settings for your new ISP. I had a similiar issue with my ISP and my existing kit. The IPS insisted that only the supplied speedtouch would work. I made a few phone calls to the dealers of my US robotics kit and found some settings that worked. I never installed the speedtouch.

You'll need values for VPI, VCI, Encapsulation, and muxing type plus your user name and password. Your ISP may supply them if you ask or maybe you can find them on Google. Hopefully your modem has a quick setup to make life easier. Also, as you have already installed the Speedtouch maybe you can locate the neccesary settings in the admin.
