UltraVNC - Black Screen!
      #396164 - Tue Jun 03 2008 02:22 PM

Just read May's Webuser's article on "controlling your PC from anywhere" and I thought I'd give it a go. Got it all set up and amazingly it worked, with my laptop linking up with my home PC very nicely, until... I rebooted the home PC. Then whenever I launch the UltraVNC Viewer from my laptop, it lets me log in and just comes up with a black screen (certainly not my home PC!) There are no error messages, just blackness! When I uninstalled and reinstalled UltraVNC on home PC it worked perfectly again until... reboot! Anyone else had this trouble or has any ideas as to what's causing it? I'm running Vista, which I know upsets other VNC programs, but, as I said, this one did actually work, all be it briefly! Thanks everyone.

This is a bit of guesswork really because I don't know the programme. I would imagine UltraVNC records an IP address of the distant computer so it knows what to connect to. If one or both of your PCs use dynamic IP addressing then when you reboot, the IP address will change so UltraVNC won't know what to do.

Hi Jake,

There are a few suggestions in this thread regarding the issue, such as turning off the Aero theme in Vista, or going into User Properties in UltraVNC on your home PC and deselecting the 'Poll Full Screen' option.
