Sinner

The 1GB flash drive is a storage device and has nothing to do with wireless connections.

1. Connect the Compaq computer to the router by the Ethernet cable so that you can access the router details. Type 192.168.1.0 into a browser address bar window. When asked for the user name and password, try admin and password respectively. Go through the sections in the left pane until you find one where you can enter your ISP details, i.e. user name and password.

2. In the left pane look for a section named wireless or similar wording. Now find an SSID name and a WEP/WPA key. Make a note of these and/or change the SSID to something more meaningful to you but don‘t use obvious names, like your name.

3. The above two pieces of information are needed for any wireless computer to connect to a router. Right-click the wireless network adapter’s icon in the system tray, open it and follow the prompts to connect. The software varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but it is a matter of keying in the SSID and the security key.

Both computers should now be connected to the internet. If you want guidance on setting up sharing, etc. then start a separate topic in this section of the forum.

Good luck.

I’m glad you’ve sorted it out.

One other thing I should have mentioned, is that you should backup the configuration so that you can easily restore the set up in the event of problems.

In the router set up (192.168.1.0) go to the section that allows ‘backup and restore’ and make a backup.
