Wireless connection on XP user accounts
      #386544 - Fri Feb 29 2008 09:01 PM

I have recently installed a Belkin Wireless card in my desktop. I am the primary/administrator account holder on my PC which has 4 other accounts with wife and kids. I operate on XP and use a Sky wireless router. On my account, the connection is absolutely fine, I can use internet and email perfectly well and pretty pleased with it. If my wife logs in under her user, for some reason the wireless network isn't detected and she can't go online. I've tried Belkin support who weren't much use, but I'm guessing it's a simple setting somewhere but I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

More by accident than design, I have set up all other accounts to use Windows to manage the wireless connection which worked fine. Now I have the problem that Windows does not always pick up the connection automatically and then resort to the Belkin software to pick up the connection. It seems that I have to alternate between the Belkin software and Windows to maintain any sort of consistent service when my PC starts up. Could the Belkin software conflict with Windows and would it cause any problem to uninstall the software and just use Windows?

Yes they can conflict but if you remove anything, it's best to stop Windows trying to manage your connection and let the people who built the hardware do it with their utility.

Select the option to use the Belkin utility in the options.

Then right-click My Comuter > Manage.

Click the + to the left of Services and Applications, then click Services.

Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration > right-click > Properties.

Make sure Startup type is set to Disabled and that you Stop the service.

Click OK on each dialogue box to exit.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!
