      #378720 - Sun Jan 06 2008 08:52 AM

hi would anyone know whether one can reset the net gear routers many times or is there a limit of reset attempts. I.E I have had to reset up-to a number of 17 because of intermittent drop outs and other factors.would be greatful of any input. regards whizzer.

I suspect the only limitations are a) your patience and b) the life/strength of the reset button.

Do the drop outs happen when using wireless or cable? Let us know this plus the other factors that you mentioned.

hi burrwalnut thanks for reply--it seems to happen mostly after xp updates and updates of various software progs. also it can happen if i do not shut down properly or impatience sets in when i am in a hurry for going somewhere like now as in have to go somewhere now. i did start to uninstall & reinstall netgear. now i have tried just install software without unplugging router, just the router software, this time fingers crossed (P.S i dont like that phrase)upto just it has behaved and all is well(shhh).will see how it goes but thanks for your interest burrwalnut.regards whizzer.

My 'Hmmm' was a sign of disapproval not disbelief.

hi again burrwalnut thanks for your undying confidence in my ability to be right and proper but being an old silver surfer sometimes (BIG AL)just has to put his two scents in which makes such as me seem to be not worthy of the tech world.sorry if this has upset your standing but sometimes (AL)wins no matter what!! thanks again mate regards whizzer.

i work in broadband and we deal with alot of netgear and sagem routers and yes if they are reset too much they can begin to play up. like mine before i started working in broadband and ive been there 2 years now and not had to reset it as the safer thing to do is swich the power off on the router if there is a power button or switch it off at the wall.
