More help required
      #374553 - Tue Dec 04 2007 11:24 AM

Hi again all,

Trying to move my wired PC to another room. Problem is that this has always been 'wired' although laptop, Ps3 etc all connect wireless.

I've tried simply removing the ethernet cable, but I loose connecion. I cannot reconnect it without drilling holes and running cables.
Could it be that my PC doesn't have the wireless hardware? It is a few years old now.
How can i tell?
If it is this problem where is the best place to purchase?

Is it another problem altogether?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Spewy.

If it is a PC and not a laptop then no, it won't have any built in wireless hardware. You need something like this.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Okay bought and received one of those as you suggested. Plugged it in, but no joy the PC doesn't seem to recognise it!
Tried calling the Belkin help line but they are only open during office hours and i'm at work then.
Any further info greatly received.

I assume you installed the drivers from the CD and then installed the card in a PCI slot inside your PC. What happened then?

Can you go to Device Manager and see what it tells you about any devices that aren't working properly.

What does this new card show as in Device Manager? I mean it's name and description?

Sorry I don't know. Which area should i be looking?
The device manager doesn't highlight anything not working, could it be that the card isn't detected??

I would guess it would come under Network Adaptors but I don't know for sure. If it's not being detected I would guess there is something wrong with it. Under the Distance Selling Regulations you have the right to return faulty goods. I would take advantage of that right.

Okay, returned the card and was refunded.
Decided on another approach, called IP and told them i was canceling due to no connection etc, They sent out a wireless adaptor free of charge.

Up and running again.

Thanks for the help.
