Hello
I have had a number of problems with my network. It was running fine using a BT Home Hub with 2 desktops running windows XP and a laptop running XP however, the laptop qualified for the free vista upgrade, so i upgraded and ever since i cant get any of the computers to see eachother, iv searched numerous forums for answers to no avail, iv also found a few things on your forum/magazine and tried them, but nothing seems to work.
Help!

Do you mean you can't share files between the computers?
If so, on the Vista PC (the probable culprit) you have two choices: 1. The sensible and proper solution, which is to use identical account names and use passwords. 2. I don’t use passwords so I have to give ‘Everyone’ access as follows. Share at the highest level folder otherwise you will have to do this multiple times. Right-click the folder you want to share then > Properties > Security Tab > Edit > Add, type ‘Everyone’ (not the quotes) and below it select your preferences, e.g. Read or Full Control. Now Apply, OK etc. to finish.
If it’s still not sharing, make sure in Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center you have Password Protected Sharing ticked as ‘off’. Also, make sure Network Discovery and File Sharing are both ‘on’.

I have fiddled around and now the vista laptop can see both computers, however the computer running xp pro, when i click 'workgroup computers' it says the workgroup isnt accessible.
Also im trying to add a printer to the laptop thats connected to one of the desktops, it sees the printer perfectly well but when i try and connect it says 'cannot connect to the printer' however the printer is shared and the other desktop can print to it.

On the XP Pro PC what shows up when you go to My Network Places?
Presumably the XP Pro PC is in the same workgroup? If not, it should be.
Also, make sure Simple File sharing is enabled.
Easy to overlook, is the printer and the PC it's connected to, switched on?
