Connecting multiple PCs to router
      #365908 - Wed Sep 19 2007 09:55 PM

I have a PC hardwired to my Netgear wireless router, my wife has a laptop with XP, my daughter with Vista both connecting wirelessly, no problems until today...

I bought two more laptops both with Vista one for me, the other for my two daughters to share. I have managed to get each of them to connect individually, proper WEP encryption working etc. The problem is trying to get them all to connect at the same time, which has so far proved impossible. If I unplug the router, wait and restart then some will get it and not all. If I switch off one then the others will get the connecting but not all - so infuriating!

Just to be clear the icon in the system tray says 'Access and Internet' - which allows that PC to connect OR 'Access Local' and no internet connection.

I am not very techie and a noob to Vista, is it an IP configuration problem and if so how might I resolve it?

Here are a couple of sites that may help with wifi troubleshooting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313242/en-us
and here http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html

Also, try typing the WEP key in hexadecimal rather than as characters. Changing the channel number sometimes helps.

Finally got it sorted! The router was only allowing 1.1 - 1.5 as simple as that - thanks for the advice, although it didn't directly solve the problem it certainly excluded a few things.

Thank you.

I'm glad you have sorted it out but what do you mean by 1.1 to 1.5?

Sorry I meant my router was only allowing 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.5 - All I had to do was change the 5 to a 9 therefore giving it more ip addresses to work with
