Please help if you can. My computer has suddenly started giving popup messages directing me to dodgy spyware websites. The computer has slowed down, task manager has stopped working and the system restore facility is not working. It also seems to jump between open windows, and my default homepage keeps changing to ucleaner.com (which Norton keeps blocking).
Here is my logfile:

Hello vw1312
Please download MalwareBytes Anti-malware (MBAM) from one of the following links: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer (including this one.) Double-click on the icon on your desktop named Download_mbam-setup.exe. This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer. When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish button. MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically update itself after the install, you can press the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program.
On the Scanner tab, make sure the Perform quick scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When the scan is finished a message box will appear that it has completed scanning successfully. Click OK. Now click Show Results. Make sure all entries have a checkmark at their far left . Click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs' quarantine. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then do a File, Save and then close the Notepad window. Remember where you saved the log file, as we will want to see it later. Please post the The MBAM results and a new HijackThis log.
Thank you.

I did as you suggested. Some of the infected files could not be deleted until I had rebooted, but all seems OK now. Only unresolved problem is that I can't access Task Manager - I get the message "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator" - any ideas?

Hello vw1312
That's great... Please re-open HijackThis again and choose "Do a system scan only". Please put a check next to each of the following entries (if still present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {9974092C-5968-4239-A43B-577E87C6E179} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE O18 - Protocol: bwfile-8876480 - {9462A756-7B47-47BC-8C80-C34B9B80B32B} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\GAPlugProtocol-8876480.dll O24 - Desktop Component 2: Privacy Protection - file:///C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger\index.htm
Now please close all open windows except HJT and press "Fix checked".
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log.

I must have done something wrong when I tried to use Combofix, so I tried Spybot S&D (I saw the advice on another post) which worked.
Here is my latest Hijackthis logfile. Task manager is now working properly, although it is now really slow to boot up and load the desktop - any ideas?

Hello vw1312
Lets try running an online scanner...
First please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser - Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Opera browser - Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
-------------------
Please now use Internet Explorer and run this online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes. The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files: Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT Now click on Scan Settings In the scan settings make that the following are selected: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options: Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
Click OK Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system, This will take a while so be patient and let it run.
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As a Text File. Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt) Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish. Copy and paste that information in your next post along with a new HijackThis log.
Thank you
