Hi I'm trying to help someone out, they have had a company install a server and a few pc's, recently norton has caused them to stop recieving email via outlook express. I've tried everything I can to sort norton out to no avail. My next idea is to use my own PC and login to their email and then forward the emails to their hotmail account. I'm not very clued up on POP3 things, :( so this is where I get stuck. Can I receive their emails on my home pc. what do i need to do to get this working.? They have given me the password and they are using bt broadband surf anytime. they have a few different email accounts, one is xxx@mycltd.demon.co.uk and they can recieve messages fine with that, but the other email, xxx@mycltd.co.uk can only send out.
Is it possible, please help....

Why not get the company to do a proper job and set up the server so they can receive email?

hi thanks for the reply, the guy i'm trying to help has a small business, the company that set the server up was charging £400 per month on maintance, for the last 6 months my guy didn't need them and thus a lot of money was wasted, not so long ago my guy cancelled the maintance, if he called them out for this they will charge him a fortune. They did set it up right, just that norton tried to upgrade itself a weekago and then they got the error, i looked on the net and sure enough norton was to blame, i followed all the intructions but it wasn't till the end that I found out the server machine also had norton. The easiest option ( i thought ) would be to get their emails and forward them on. :(

just a thought but shouldn't the second email also xxx@mycltd.demon.co.uk. For instance one could be sales@mycltd.demon.co.uk and the other enquiries@mycltd.demon.co.uk but I think they should both end in .demon.co.uk.
To change these settings for the dodgy address look in outlook->tools->e-mail accounts->view or change existing email accounts->change. your pop3 and smtp settings should be the same as the email address that works but failing that check with demon for pop3 and smtp server addresses, it should be on their homepage or failing that contact them and they will be only too happy to provide you with the answers. There is a test account settings button there which will give you some feedback. Hope this helps...
ps try and not change any of the other settings as this may prevent your email from working.

Although no comfort to your mate, perhapas he can now see that £400 a month was quite a good deal. He's saved £2400 but now he can't get any emails and it will cost him a pile to get it sorted. As it's a server, is it a Microsoft Exchange Server? If so you may have even more problems. It may cost a few bob but I would go back to the company who installed the server and ask them for help.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
