Website for to send emails to selected club members
      #375094 - Sat Dec 08 2007 09:15 AM

I am running a small website for a local club. I have Dreamweaver 4. I would like to set-up a new page listing some of our committee members and a way that other members can send individuals emails (without disclosing email addresses). Recently I saw a website that had a box in which to add the text, having done that all you had to do was select a name from a dropdown list and click on send. Our drop down list would need to have around 12 names listed. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I already have a web form that uses a php document. (keep it simple please)

Hi splash,

Do you mean something like a shoutbox or Private messaging?

I am not familiar with those terms, but if you look at the following link it will give you some indication as to what I think we need. http://www.hdcc.org.uk/contact.html

Hi flamingfox
This may not be as I imagine. I am open to suggestions. We have a members only area on our website (password protected), I would like to add a form to this area of our website so members can contact each other without disclosing email addresses to each other, if this is possible. Perhaps this type of form only sends emails to one address. In an ideal world I would like to add about 12 members names and 12 email addresses (hidden to others). In the future I would perhaps like to add as many as 50 contact names and email addresses. I obviously want to protect members from receiving lot of spam emails.

Hi flaming fox, That looks fine, one question does the person completing the form need to add his/her email address in another box? Would the person receiving the email see this email address allowing him/her to reply? What about security from the so called spam trawlers. I try to use Email Obfuscator on all addresses on the website.

Hi splash,

1. No, the person that completes the form doesn't need a email, but can if you request for security.

2. Yes, the person receving can get the email address. (I'm not sure exactly though).

3. Like I said, you can do the email thing or you can do those security images where you have to enter a code to send the massage.

I can a modify the page to make it look nice or you can, up to you...

Hi flamingfox,

That sounds great, I think if the adding of the email address is a requirement, it may make it more secure. I shall be more than pleased to receive your dsigned form. I already have a form using "thanks php" this is a form (not designed by me) It gives an acknowledgement after a member has completed a competition entry form. I don't understand how it works but it does work well.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi flamingfox,

Just back from meeting - I have opened a new page in Dreamweaver 4 and cut & pasted your form into it. I have changed the colour and saved it to my desktop. How do I send it to you? I have never sent a document in this group.

I hope that's what you wanted me to do. The page obviously will need to be changed to have the box for emails addresses to be added. Also perhaps you can show me the place to add the emails addresses. I can send you my email address if that's best.

Hi flamingfox, I have sent you a personal message, I already have a file "Thanks.php" for another form. I assume I can change the name to somthing like "contact.php" without a problem. Will the main document code need changing? I assume so.

Just checked the php file again and the one I am currently using for my competition form is called competition.php (sorry I told you wrong before) - is this what you want me to send ? if I paste this into this page how secure is it going to be?

It does not seem to allow me to paste the complete document, so do you want me to copy and paste the HTML code. sorry I am not very good at this.

Still can get the password to allow me access

Re: Still one query - Email Obfuscator code [Re: flamingfox]
      #376895 - Sat Dec 22 2007 03:00 PM

Hi flamingfox,

Many thanks for all your help with my on-line contact form, All seems fine.

Can you or some other wizard out there help with my (hopfully) final query/problem, flamingfox arranged for me to use two php files one contains email addresses in the normanl format. THE QUESTION: Can I tighten up security by changing these email addresses by using a Email Obfuscator code, I have obtain the code, but for me it does not work. The code always starts with :- <a href="mailto:&#106 etc etc and ends with 107;</a>
I have tried many combinations removing some and all of the above, but still can’t get it to work. I really do not understand the php coding at all.

Perhaps the straight answer is Obfuscator will not work with php files.

Help please
