I am getting pretty fed up with arguments concerning the subject of Flash and its disadvantages in terms of Search Engine Optimisation. Anyone who is competent enough in SEO and rely on experience of the subject – PLEASE lets put the final word on this: In terms of Search Engine Optimisation: Is it possible for the spiders to read flash content? Is it possible to get over the problem by having more than one site, and how will that help the ranking of the Flash site itself?
In short, are there any miraculous ways of having content of the flash sites read by the search engine spiders (as advertised by some online U.S. SEO training courses)?

I think the reason that flash is less likely to be found by spiders, is because the text is turned into images in order to give the animation. Search engines are unable to tell what an image represents and so will ignore it. You must have headings and text in a site for optimum searching.

This site suggests that the SE spiders are able to read .swf files to some degree, depending on the content:

As an example, here's one of the featured WU games...

..and this is some of the content of the swf file as indexed by Google:
Search: bb_combo_webuser.swf filetype:swf

Just looks like the HTML text from the loading screen that comes up while the flash loads. Spiders will never get as much information from a site as they can in normal text. As you say, they can read it "to some degree". It is not a very large degree.

Yes, exactly. Just thinking back over the many thousands of sites that I've visited over the years as a result of a Google search, I don't recall seeing any Flash sites at all. Mind you, if I did see one, I'd back out of there as fast as I could anyway.
