Hi,
I have just updated OE and IE to the latest versions and all seems to be well apart from 1 little problem. When I click on the Launch OE icon or the Launch IE icon the grey Dial-up connection box comes up and where I used to be connected automatically from there, I now have to click Connect. I have tried ticking the Connect automatically box but this doesn't seem to work, as next time I try to connect I have to click Connect again and the Connect automatically box is unchecked.
I have had a look at the Network and Dial-up connections and I can't seem to find a setting to correct this, although I'm sure there must be one somewhere...
Only a small problem, I know, but a bit annoying
Hope you can help

I've had same problem but found if I checked "connect automatically" then closed OE via File, Exit rather than the "x close" box, then rebooted it's been ok thereafter.

Thanks for the reply, Arandora. I tried your idea but I can't find Exit- only File, Close. Is this what you meant? ...it didn't work anyway

I have just put this elsewhere for someone. Open IE., go to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/CONNECTIONS and select the option you require.

Hi Byron,
I tried your suggestion and then experimented with the different options there, but none cured the problem.
Any other ideas, anyone?
cheers

Sorry to be pedantic but when you selected the option you wanted, I trust you clicked the 'apply' button too?

Don't be sorry, it's little things like that which can easily be overlooked!
However, I have tried applying each of the 3 options and still haven't had any success I'm afraid. When I ticked the top box and tried clicking on my launch icons, it wouldn't automatically connect, that is I had to manuallly go to Network & Dial-up connections and connect from there.
I still can't work out why, when I tick the Connect automatically box when I am about to be connected, it doesn't remember that I have ticked it and it is un-ticked next time I try? I'm sure if I could work this out it would solve the problem...

If that's the case then it is a glitch preventing it from 'remembering' you have ticked the box. In short, the 'apply' command isn't working. This takes me into a realm I don't understand. Sorry! Here's a picture of my wife so you can see that others have bigger problems.

Looks like she could do with a bit of Savlon...
That's what it seems like to me, maybe someone else will read this and be able to help.
Thanks for your time anyway

Hi johnjohn,
Tried that and still no joy.
Another strange thing I have just noticed is that when I am offline and I click on Receive all in OE, I have to click Connect in the grey box as usual but my modem speaker volume is suddenly turned up(??) Usually it is muted...
I'm confused by that 1 as well

Yippee!!!
I've finally worked out what the problem was. When I updated OE and IE the settings must have changed. I couldn't work out why when I clicked on the OE icon my modem made a horrible noise and wouldn't always connect, but when I clicked on my IE icon it connected silently and first time. I then noticed that the default dial-up connection on OE was set to an old freeserve connection number, hence the connection problems.
I knew it was something simple, but as I have said before, it is often the simple things which can easily get over looked.
Anyway, I have just made sure they are both set to connect to the proper thing and all is good again
