Windows Messenger is different to MSN Messenger
The best way is to use your firewall to prevent such messages Blocking ports 135, 137-139, and 445 should do the trick
If you aren't on a network and have no need for Windows Messenger, then it can be disabled or removed from your system
For Windows 2000
Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services Scroll down and highlight Messenger Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. Click the STOP button. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar Click OK Windows XP Home
Click Start | Control Panel Click Performance and Maintenance Click Administrative Tools Double click Services Scroll down and highlight Messenger Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. Click the STOP button. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar Click OK Windows XP Professional
Click Start | Control Panel Click Administrative Tools Double click Services Scroll down and highlight Messenger Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. Click the STOP button. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar Click OK
You can also remove it using this command line
Go to Start | Run Copy in the following:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
(This is permanent) Or finally, You could copy the following in red to Notepad and save as Disable Messenger.reg Once saved double click on it to merge with the registry (XP only)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Messenger] "Start"=dword:0000004

My dad runs XP and has been complaining about unsavoury pop-ups (increase the size of [....] etc.) and a company called nand (o.n.o.), which has been bugging him. This sounds like it may very well be what's happening.
He wouldn't know what a Windows Messenger pop-up looks like, nor do I, but I think this could be the solution to his woes.

I've never understood why people would want to increase the size of [....]. 18 inches should be enough for anyone.
Apologies to any ladies reading this. I couldn't resist it.

Not on the open forum, Helga. That would have to be a PM (Private Message).
