Network Cable unplugged
      #361129 - Sun Aug 12 2007 06:17 PM

Hello ppl

Got another one for yas. Lately whenever i'm online i lose connection and get that computer icon thing in the task bar with a red 'x' saying local area cable unplugged. It then reconnects itself...sometimes i get a connection other times i don't. This happens at roughly 3 minute intervals. Then when it cuts out my modem goes into 'training' mode. Go figure! Anyway i've checked my modem, unplugged it, reconfigured the settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, even blew into it! All connections are fine...well seem fine. So now i don't know what to do. Hopefully someone out there can help me....again!

I'm using xp sp2 and the modem is BT Voyager 105 ADSL.

Thanks in advance peeps.

Seriously I'd Open Internet Explorer on the Properties Link and on the Connections tab Check that the Setting is set to "Never dial a connection" and press the "Apply" button then see how things are?

Maxping

I think it's not just annoying, it's a combination of childishness and illiteracy.

This forum started in April 2001 and I’ve been very patient until recently. These days, if they can’t be bothered to write at a reasonable standard, I simply don’t reply.

BedstorfromAP

20,000 posts at an average of, say, 50 words each, equates to the sonnets of John Milton. You should be quite literate by now!

Then why do I find them so difficult to read when they sprinkled with capital letters all over the place?

BW I made a mistake The total should read 21,000 Plus

and thats since the end of 1999 did not start posting till 2000 in Forums

Can see all of you calculating Furiously Thats 8 posts per day Thats within Most peoples reach If you add the surfing searches on Top per day (off Google History stats) and they say I average 50 google searches per day.
The Grand combined total is about 203,000searches and posts!

True story Some years ago AOL informed me that I was ranked in the Top 9% of all the AOL UK users for Surfing. Wonder where I stand in the rankings Now?

sorry guys
Had no idea i would've hit a raw nerve. Will be more careful in future. I do think however that calling me childish and illiterate was below the belt. I was simply asking for some help. I'm fairly new to this forum so wouldn't know what p***** people off.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, will try it and let you know how it goes.

Check that there is Nothing Electrical near the Microfilter (timer?) and Check
Have you got a dialup modem installed? that doe need to come out
Also, what is your ISP ? Some do have Dialup program installed with the ISP setup software ...there is a small chance this may be "turned on"?

Normally its turned off but sometimes it conflicts

It was me who used that phrase and upon reflection it was wrong and childish of me and I accordingly apologise to you.

Even though I feel strongly about the way people post their problems in this and other forums I should keep my thoughts to myself or perhaps try a more subtle approach - watch this space.

Thanks for the apology. I will definitely be more careful in future. I'm sure if i've been on forums for as long as you guys i'd feel the same way. The space is being watched!

BedstorfromAP

I'm with AOL and using the BT Vogager 105 usb adsl modem. It's not near anythng electrical. Everything was fine up until a couple of weeks ago and i haven't done anything out of the ordinary. The two gren arrows in the system tray for the modem flashes yellow and i keep getting the 'network cable unplugged' pop up even when i'm offline.

Well all I can think of that to do is Go to Keyword Drivers and Down lod the Driver for the Voyager 105 fron there and Save it Ok?

Next Go offline and Uninstall the Broadband Driver via the Start menu

and remove the Blue Usb cable when It says Ok?

Next Click on the folder you have downloaded this is an up to date version of the Drivers and the BB installation Disk ( Old disk can be retired to an emergency back up)

And Connect the Blue cable when it says You'll hear a Xylophone sound (if your sound is on)
And then Go online May have to set up a Location But It may skip this Ok?
Ps I strongly advise you Have the 1-Click fixes Program also the Computer Checkup (run once per month)in Situ
Both Items are on this page for Downloading

PPS Turn OFF the Auto Start ...That is Nothing But Trouble (om the Square icon Menu) Aol companion Too (same Menu)

Downloaded one-click fix and pc check up and re-installed driver for modem but still no luck. Computer's a bit faster but that's it. Same thing's happening. Very odd. Beginning to think it might be something to do with the external line.

I had the same problem when i was with AOL witht he same modem, eventually the insides melted causing the solder to short circuit the board, i switched to a netgear DG834 i think it is and have never had problems with it. ( note that with this router you can only log in uing a master account)

P.s. have you tried reinstaling the drivers fromt he device manager?

Yep re-installed using device manager, no change. What i find a bit strange is that the same thing happens even when i'm offline. Tried phoning AOL and they weren't of much help. The modem's fine as well. I don't really want to change modems unless i'm sure it is a fault with the modem or the drivers for fear that the same will happen to a new one if the problem is external. What do you think?
