Just a connection story, Having heard good thing about Centralpoint Broadband (http://www.cpbb.co.uk) (owned by Telefonica) I had a look at the website, and the availability checker to find out if the 1mbps service was available. Apparently my exchange was to go online imminently, so i placed the order on 16/6/04 under the advice that yes, at worst, it may take a week or so longer than the maximum 21 days connection time advertised.
After the 3 weeks came and went I received no news, so I contacted them. BT were the hold up and it will there by the end of July.
The end of July approached quickly, again with no news, so again I chased them to find that again, BT were slacking and the hardware would be there by the end of August.
Not overly happy but still clinging on, it neared the last weeks of August, again with no news. Again i chased this time by phone as well, 68 days after placing the order, only to find it'll now be the end of August/start of SEPTEMBER!.
To top it all, in the mean time they have now started to offer half price connection, which apparently I'm not entitled to, and what really brings the blood to boiling point is that throughout the entire episode they have continued to advertise my phone exchange as able to connect within 21 days. I have pointed this out to them on every occassion and no-one seems bothered. Is it common practice amongst Broadband ISP's to use false advertising to lure us into placing an order and then keep us hanging on with a moving completion date?
Sad to say my summer of broadband mayhem with Halo and Unreal have bit the dust, we can only hope that it'll be here in time for Santa.
