This may seem a silly question, but how do I switch my modem off, I am connected all the time, and I believe it helps to clear it if you switch it off now and again, is this right, I am running xp pro, terayon modem, running ntl 600k

If you have your network connection icon showing in your ststem tray you can right click it and click disconnect
If not, Go to Start | Control Panel | Network Connections
You should see an icon to NTL, right click that and click disconnect

I seem to have two network connections-net adapter connection and local area connection which is the usb cable modem, but none of them say ntl and none of them have a disconnect option only disable

I'd follow Bricats suggestion, it won't do it any harm

Now and again my connection will drop and won't reconnect unless I restart the modem. All I do now is pull the plug for a few seconds and then I can reconnect again without problem.
It doesn't do any harm.
