Broadband connection dropping
      #389126 - Sat Mar 22 2008 12:00 PM

Hi,
I am having a very annoying situation with my Netgear 834GT wireless router in that it is intermittently losing connection to the internet. Switching the router off for a few seconds will usually bring it back on again. Is this normal ? or is it time to replace the router. I was given to understand that the Netgear is good gear. Should I choose a different brand. I have recently switched to Talktalk and have had problems since then really, but at last after several phone calls the adsl light on the router is steady and seems Ok. This remains lit now even when I lose the connection so I assume the signal connection to the house is Ok and that it is the router that is playing up.
Can anyone advise please?

Could it not be your PC?

Are you getting any error messages that could point to a solution? If the router internet light is steady that usually means the modem is receiving the broadband signal and the problem lies somewere in the link between your computer and the modem

Thanks. The only error message I get is that it cant find the server.
However, since i wrote- the signal is playing up again and i am intermittently losing connection. Talktalk have supposedly referred the problem to the BT engineers.
I know at work even when the signal was steady that we had a similar connectivity problem and rebooting the router would do the trick. It just seems that I have to do it so often that I thought my router may be playing up. As replacement is quite costly I am unwilling to get a new one if it is not necessary. Think the Pc is Ok.
