I've just got BB via Lixxus PAYG. Apparently a BT engineer still needs access within the house, and we'll arrange that this coming week, but it appears that the broadband service is up and running and I can access the internet via ADSL modem (Dlink DSL-300T) and browse the Web ok. The service seems a bit slow at times, and fails to find the requested site at times, but overall appears to be there.
However, there is one major glitch. Using my new broadband connection I have been unable to access www.ebay.co.uk or www.microsoft.com. I've tried several times, but with no joy. I've tried with both Internet Explorer and with Mozilla Firefox, but without luck.
I can connect to these sites ok from the same PC with the same browsers, with the same browser settings, via dial-up, but have failed every time with broadband.
So it seems that the problem lies within the ADSL modem or has something to do with the broadband connection, tho why the connection should be fine for every other website I've accessed and yet fail to connect to these two sites is beyond me. But the problem is consistent, not once could I connect to either of these two sites when browsing the web on broadband.
The modem offers self tests for F5 End, F5 seg, F4 End and F4 seg, and sometimes passes and other times fails these tests, tho I have no idea what these tests are about, and the manual doesn't mention them.
I believe I've got the various comms settings right in the modem set-up, , and microfilters are fitted appropriately but I would be grateful if anyone can offer any advice. Or am I simply jumping the gun and the BT engineer will perform some magical tweak at the phone socket when he finally calls again.
Many thanks in advance !!
