hi everyone, im new to this forum so if im asking this q in the wrong place please forgive. i have a sony pcg fx804 laptop,think its 2003 modle, the long n short of it is that i need to replace the hard drive on it and i cant find the thing. dose anyone out there know where its located before i start taking it appart. would really be greatfull........ dave uk

They're usually not too difficult to locate. there's several panels on the underside of the laptop. Remove each one until you get the right one. Think about the size of the panels and you won't have to remove too many before you find it. Laptop hard drives are 2.5" across, 4" long so the panel will be a bit bigger than that.

hi, thanks for the reply,was talking to an it guy last nite, he recons on my sony you have to take the back off to get at hdd because its a vivio or sumthing,forgot to mention that on my post,he also thinks i can connect a working hdd to the firewire input and run pc like that, what do you think, thanks anyway n take care.

You don't usually have to take the whole case off to get to a hard drive.
You can run from a drive connected to the firewire connector, but replacing the internal drive is a better way tpo use it really.

hi,found out the hdd is attached to the motherboard under the keyboard,a real sod to remove but there you go,thanks again.

You'll have to forgive my scepticism here.
Have you seen this for yourself, or is it what you've been told?
I've dismantled quite a few laptops and never done one yet with a difficult to access hard drive.

hi, been away,yes if looked at it, its under the keyboard,god know how you get the thing out,ive managet to sort the problem out without replacing it any way thanks again n take care.
