Hi All. I'm a pretty much a complete newbie having got my first rig just 4 months ago. It is as follows: P5N-E SLI, Q6600, nVidia 8600GT, 4GB ram, 500GB HDD, 650 watt PSU, Thermaltake Tsunami case. Perhaps a bit ambitiously I am dual booting Vista 64x and Ubuntu 7.10 64x. Everything is going well and I have received some great help from forums (especially with Ubuntu) All in all I'm loving it and feeling more confident each day. I've had no problems with either OS and I feel Vista receives a lot of negative comment without much justification. Ubuntu is just superb. However, I was given Crysis and Bioshock for Christmas and I don't think my 8600GT is capable of doing them justice. Consequently I was thinking about upgrading to a 8800GT so I have a few queries: Is this a worthwhile upgrade? Is this card compatible with my motherboard and other components? Will it fit into the Tsunami case? Is it simple to put in etc?
I know that's a lot of questions but can anyone advise me?
Thanks and seasons greetings, john

I too have got Crysis and an 8600GT card and Ok I haven't played it yet but The best advice is turn down the Graphics ,Use a lower resolution if need be ? then It'll run sweeter... I had a problem like yours with the latest Command and Conquer game (and an Older GeForce card default Graphic setting crashed the game so I took several graphics settings down (trial and error) and It ran without Jagging or stalling) Turning the colour palette to 16 from 32 and resolution of 1760x 768 is a good starting point And You'll hardly notice the Difference High resolution graphics Make Text much harder to see You want to be able to read that and save your eyesight Yes? Try this before forking out for any new Card/s BTW I do have the 2x card setup and SLI connector on Mine SO If you are going too Lay out some cash then Fill the other Graphics slot with another 8600GT card (Nothing Else!!)Fitting is easy Just remember to Switch the Power off but you can leave it Plugged in to act as a static strap...Usually a big Picture guide in the Box to show how to do it
All you'll need is a crosshead /pozidrive screwdriver and 1 case screw to secure the New card (to the back panel)
Blow any dust off the Main board befor you start Should take you 5 minutes to Complete
Only set up thing to check is Run the Graphics setups Program and See if the SLI link is turned on? Otherwise you may be running on 1 card the other is a Dummy Top Tip DO NOT use the Drivers that came with the Card Instead Use the Forceware Generic Drivers These are updated with Bug Fixes Monthly Who Knows Crysisi Might have been patched already?? Overwrites the old driver (and no reset needed!) www.nvidia.com/page/forceware_geforce.html

A resolution of what?
The colour quality, not palette, will be set at 32bit on a new PC, so should not need adjusting.
The higher the res the better the text, it's more sharper and easier to read, if you cannot read it then either; adjust your monitor or visit the opticians.
OP you do not mention what issues in particular you are experiencing, can you please elaborate?

Mouse I should have said Depending on the monitor Some settings on Graphic cards exceeds the Performance of the Monitor On some older games from the Win98 era I have to reduce to 800x800 to play the game if there is No option to play High res. DOS games(those that work),May have to be reduced even further to a 640 or 320 pixel setting
Returning to the Crysis Game I do Note that it needs 12 GB Hard drive space (No Kidding !! ) and RAM of 1GB for XP and 1.5GB for Vista and The NVIDIA Video card spec is 6800GT or better with 256MB RAM
NO specs given for Resolutions(on the box cover) now, as with Older software So You have to tweak the settings to get it to run smoothly ,or fit on your monitor
