Sata /ATA drives on new computer
      #392659 - Fri Apr 25 2008 10:10 AM

Hi All
New computer with P/Bell motherboard GA-T671MG.

sata no 1 with new hard drive plugged in

sata 2 empty,

ATI socket with new dvd on the end set to cable select.

I would like to use my old ATA hard drive as an internal backup drive but no mater how I configure them cs/cs-ma/sl the computer will not boot with this fitted I have even put an operating sys on the old drive thinking that it may be trying to boot from that but it won't.
In bios it says (without extra drive fitted)

ide chanel 0 master dvd
ide chanel 0 slave none
ide chanel 2 master samsung
ide chanel 3 master none

there seems to be no way to alter this this.

first boot dev is CD
second boot dev hard drive
third boot dev removable

Its the first time I have had a sata motherboard but up to now it looks like I may have to get a new sata backup drive

any ideas
Thanks
pete

I can't remember the exact wording off the top of my head, but look in the BIOS. You may need to change the hard drive configuration to standard IDE.

Thanks RichieP
I will look in the bios again The last computer I bought came with a manual on the mo board but as yet I have not been able to find one online.
I have done a work around for the moment (fitted the old drive inside the case and used a ata/ide lead with a usb plug on one end routed through the case back and plugged into a usb port).
Thanks again
pete
