Losing pointer in media player

When Media player runs I lose my mouse pointer and can only exit etc. by moving mouse around until correct icon highlights. My mouse pointer is set to black if that makes a difference. I am using windows vista home premium on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Thanks as usual
