I wonder if anyone can help me? I have had a lot of problem with Windows Media Player 10, I did upgrade to 11 but reverted back. Can I use another player and take WMP completely off my computer or is it linked with XP. I have tried to sort out the script messages which keep coming up every time I look at anything. I also use iTunes which I find far superior in many ways. I don't have an iPod but another mp3 player and have to convert it I download after ripping so I need another type of player. I will be interested in any help.

WMP is an integral part of windows and to the best of my knowledge can't be removed. There are many other media players you can download and use , Winamp in my view is one of the better ones , however if you explain the script error messages maybe we can help to get you back on track. ( no pun intended )

I removed WMP 10 from XP by either deleting it in add & remove programms then typing windows media player into the search bar and deleting all it found (1 item wouldn't uninstall) but I didn't have WMP on my machine prefering wimamp myself.

mmmmm , it was/is my belief that that uninstalling via add/remove rolled the media player back to the previous version .

Thanks FifeFlyer and wildthing666, I did try to remove it and my impression too was that it just rolls back to the previous version that's what happened when I upgraded to Media Player11 and I have to be careful when it asks you if you want to upgrade to say no otherwise I get Media Player 11 back and not an upgraded version of 10. I did post on here before earlier this and went through the lengthy process suggested about removing scripts and the problem still remained. I think I will download Winamp as I have heard that it is good, thanks again will do this when I come back from hols. I had thought that Media Player was integral to XP but I have heard so many people say that they have problems with it

It's part of XP as far as I am aware, what are these problems you refer to, as I've never had any with WMP from version 7.0 up to version 11

Thanks Mouse for replying, they are scripts errors that come up when looking for music each time you look for a new album they come up. Earlier this year I posted about this problem and someone kindly showed me how to try and correct it, it was quite a lengthy process. Unfortunately I haven't got time to tell you all about it now as am in the process of going on hols. I will see if I can find it when I get back unless you get to it before I do? I did everything that was suggested but the problem still exist. I did explain everything in detail then but sorry I haven't got the time to look for it now.

Hi, back from hols and I found my earlier message, is there anything else you could suggest Mouse thanks for your help.
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, since upgrading to WMP 11 I have to say I am not as impressed as with the older version. I usually have to go in twice as I cannot contact the online store and when I do I get a message Internet Explorer script error. Below it it says

This happens every time I want to view a different CD etc. I was wondering if I should uninstall and then reinstall? Has anyone else had problems with the new version?

Thanks Mouse I will try this, have tried everything else. Windows Media Player customer service have also been trying to help, have tried everything they suggested but still no luck. I noticed this post has been in the lastest issue of webuser. I have downloaded Winamp as suggested and had to upgrade to Winamp Pro as I wanted to change the format so that I could transfer to my MP3. Winamp keeps closing as its encounters a problem. Also when I try to send to my MP3 I get the message. Some of these tracks were of an incompatible format and will not be tranferred. Would you rather me post this as a separate post?

Not sure why you paid for WinAmp Pro, and I can't see in this thread where it has been recommended?
That's by the by now, when you say WinAmp keeps closing, what exactly are you doing?
What are the file formats that cannot be transferred?

Thanks Mouse, I upgraded to Winamp Pro as I wanted to convert my music files and it didn't appear that I could do in the ordinary version. I have a Samsung USB Drive & Music Player YP U2 1GB. It's formats include MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, WAV. If I downloaded from ITunes I then converted in WMP then as you know I started having a lot of problems with it. All the files are music files off my music CD's. The original thread is an older one and is featured in the current issue 167 of Webuser and is on page 65. I think I first posted the original thread earlier in the year Feb/March I think. I didn't have any problems ripping, burning and converting in WMP just if I wanted to look at and download music. I have run a scan on my music player just to check if there was a virus as some of the downloaded files have started to show no entry. There appears to be no virus, I have also checked for Malware and nothing. So I have taken every music file off of it and am going to start again. As you will see on the problem solver page in Webuser 2 people found it good. Another reason that I changed to Winamp Pro is that when trying to transfer the format a message came up 'Transcoding F it said cannot find decoder. The other message when trying to sync the tracks to the MP3 it said 'Some of the tracks were of an incompatible format and witll not be transferred'. I am persisting in trying to sort this problem out, though I have not had much luck lately.

Can I just check that you have the latest updates from Microsoft and that you are using IE7?
I'm not sure why you've been converting music, as that player seems to be able to handle all music files, bar .FLAC and I've never been aware of WMP being able to convert music files, can you tell me where you do this within WMP?

Yes I am using Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft is regularly updated. If I downloaded from ITunes I would rip and burn to disc but would have to then convert on WMP as ITunes comes as AAC format which won't work on my MP3. Know I can convert as I download from ITunes. You are right WMP handled anything and I never had to convert there. It was just a problem search for music on WMP with the script problem. I seemed to be working ok now working with Winamp and I can rip in MP3 format which seems to work ok. I actually seemed to have more problems since the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 than 6. Most of the time I use Firefox as a browser.

Right, now I understand where you were coming from with file formats. You basically burn your iTunes songs to CD and then rip them from that disc to hard drive via WMP.
Apart from reinstalling WMP, I'd continue as normal, but perhaps avoid using their store, as you get your media from iTunes.

Thanks again Mouse for all your help, I use ITunes because of all the problems with WMP although I must say their customer support have been very patient in trying to solve this issue. Sorry I was probably a bit long winded in my explanations but we got there in the end!!
