WMP help.
      #359978 - Sat Aug 04 2007 08:26 AM

Hello there!

I have a question....
why does wmp 11 not play and of my videos? it seems it doesn't recognize the video type. I had to install real-player to do this.

I would like my wmp to be able to deal with any file type played in it, is this possible?

A friend went into gobble-de-gook mode and told me about some thing to download and attach to the wmp, so I tried and well nothing happened.

If the above cannot be done

Is there an alternative to wmp that can handle all file types?

I have tried win-amp and didn't get on with it.

Real player seems good but underpowered compared to wmp but I have to say that wmp is very resource hungry and slow to start.

Any ideas or help appreciated...

Cheers- chappers1

If you wish to stick with WMP, which is my favourite of media players, after testing several, you will need to download codecs to support the file playback.

DivX

CCCP Codec

K-Lite Codec Pack

Those should be all you need.

Hello Mouse! Thanks for those links.

I have downloaded all three, but still the only thing that can play the files is real player. The file types are 3gpp if that helps.

I am right clicking on them, then open with, then wmp. (it then says that this file in not a supported win32 file.)

Hmmmmm.

These are mobile phone clips and will play straight away with Quicktime, or Quicktime Alternative, the only way to get them to play via WMP would be to convert the file format.

I recommend River Past Audio Converter for audio conversion.

Thank you for that Mouse, I have really been playing around with real player
(there's a play on words!)

and well... it's pretty good!

It plays all my mp3's I have and the videos I have also.

Would it be easier to get rid of wmp and replace it full-time with real player?

Don't get me wrong, I think wmp is great but it seems very bulky and slow and all I use it for is to listen to my music and now and again watch a video.

What do you think?

You can't get rid of WMP as it's an integral part of Windows, so you need to keep it installed, if you're happy with RealPlayer, then continue to use it.

However I wouldn't recommend paying for it, but that's just my opinion.

Ah... well, I er... have already uninsulated wmp.

I used the add/remove and then manually from my c drive.

All seems to be running fine at the moment.

If you say I need it I will have to re-install it from the Microsoft site.

Is it really needed that much?

It will have reverted to a previous version, it won't uninstall WMP completley

But I manually deleted it from the c drive registry.

When you next run Windows updates, you will more than likely be prompted to reinstall WMP.
