When I want to listen to something direct from the web or watch something,I get an error message(Windows Media Player has encountered a problem) ,so I have to download the clip first to listen. Why can I not listen/watch direct? What do I have to change? Thanx!

Possible fix from Microsoft : enable all network streaming protocols, and then try again.
To enable all network streaming protocl
1. In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
2. In the Streaming protocols area, select all the protocol check boxes.
verify your proxy server settings
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Network tab.
2. In the Streaming proxy settings area, verify your settings. If you don't know what the settings should be, complete the remaining steps in this procedure.
3. In the Streaming proxy settings area, select a protocol, and then click the Configure button.
4. In the Configure Protocol dialog box, in the Proxy settings area, select Autodetect proxy settings. If you selected the HTTP protocol in the previous step, select Use proxy settings of the Web browser instead.

Try clicking on the configure button and choosing "use proxy settings of the web browser" > OK > apply > OK.
