Itunes problems setting up ipod
      #346960 - Wed May 09 2007 11:04 PM

At long last I have got the new version of itunes on my computer and have bought a new 30gb Ipod.
My Ipod did not come with an installation disc and I thought that this would be ok as the drivers might be on the ipod.
When I connect the ipod to the computer, it is recognising the additional device but saying that there are no drivers present.
I have borrowed an installation disc off a friend and it is still not recognising any drivers as being installed. Should my Ipod have come with a disc?
Please help.

No, new ipods do not come with disks, or at least mine didn't, if you just download the latest version of itunes, it should work.

Installing i-Tunes before you connect the i-Pod and you shouldn't have any driver issues, assuming you are running WindowsXP.

You say that you have borrowed itunes off a friend on a disk, this won't be the latest version of itunes, and may not even work with the latest generation of ipods, your better downloading the latest version, and as Mouse says, install it before connecting your ipod. Latest Version Here: Itunes 7.1.1

Am running Vista and have fully downloaded the new version of itunes (7.1.1) which is surposed to be Vista compatible and address the issues with Vista.
Still not working.
I keep getting a box saying "additional hardware recognized, click to install drivers".
Great I think so I then click on it and after a while another box pops up saying "driver software not found, please install installation disc".
Its really annoying.

I am also using my ipod with Vista, and I have no problems.

Try uninstalling itunes completely, then reinstalling it, open it up then, with itunes open, connect your ipod.

Tried it and still no success.
When I connect the ipod to the USB I get a box that pops up saying "additional hardware detected, please install drivers".
I then click on the ok button and another box appears that says "drivers could not be located, please install the disc that came with your ipod".
When I go into the device manager, the ipod is shown as a device, with a small exclamation mark next to it(?).
Rang Apple today and spoke with them for some time before they decided that they did not have a solution and that I should send them screenshots of the pop-up boxes, so that they can forward them on to their engineers.
If this continues, I think that I am going to have to get rid of Vista and go back to XP. I need the ipod more than I need the hassles that come with Vista

Check your USB drivers for a sign that the drivers are not installed properly in device Manager
