Problems with AOL9VR dial up access
      #407890 - Fri Sep 26 2008 05:29 PM

When I was using AOL8 with an access number to connect to the internet I did not have any problems but since AOL have been bought by CPW and I have used their migration disk to move to the new system I have had nothing but problems.I have also installed 9VR from the same disk. I am now only able to be on the internet (I am a dial up customer) for 15 mins before I get the following message generic host process for win32 services it also sates that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. It then shuts down my internet connection but does not disconnect it. My system tray turns from Blue to White and I have to restart my computer and sign on to aOL again. 15 mins later the same thing happens again. I have spoken to the AOL tech's and they told me it was a Windows error and to contact my computer maker. I contacted Sony and they told me it was an AOL software connection problem who is right? I have downloaded the Windows update KB894391 which is supposed to cure this problem but it has failed to do so.

It seems to me that the problem lies with the fact that 9VR uses the TCP/IP system to connect rather than the access number that 8 uses

Can anyone please solve this problem for me as it is driveing me mad.

Cheers Dave.

My OS is WindowsXP with SP1

There is a time out setting box somewhere on the setting Controls
this AOL check list is useful http://help.aol.co.uk/dialup/stay-connected-to-aol-dial-up/article/20060814195409990001

check items 2,3,4 first then if no joy look at Item 6

If you want a driver repost if you are having difficulty sourcing it
They are at the Bottom of most dial-up issues, then the Browser settings
