After a big fight with BT about a wirelss package that never worked my son has had his BT phone line reinstated and has decided to use a dial up connection. My questions are;
Will he need a modem or can the dial up be activated by a CD?
Who gives CDs to install a dial up connection?
If he uses 3 or 4 hours a week who gives the best value, he doesn't want to pay a monthly fee?

A dial up connection requires a modem, either built into a laptop or as a piece of equipment connected to the PC. Something like this. Here's an example of a dial up provider. You pay for the number of hours on line at local rates so 3 or 4 hours will be around £4 to £5 a week. A contract Broadband service would be a lot cheaper and provide a far quicker service.

Well your dial up modem should already be in the back of your machine. Just connect phone cable to it.
One option is to get in touch with BT or other for pay as you go dialup which is likely to go on your phone bill at about 1or 2p a minute. Which can be expensive.

At £5.99 a month for surfing between 2am to 4pm it's hard to beat Tesco's dial up package.
