. . . . he should be looking to rid his system of AOL completely!

It's not called AOHell for nothing! I wouldn't have it no matter how favourable the deal was. Too intrusive. Madeline.

HEEEEEEEEELLpppp, please, ive been so loyal to AOL that i cant see past it, ive heard a lot of bad things about all the things that are instaled onto the computer causing connection problems, they seem to be getting more and more often now, when i look at the task manager, there are around 7 aol items there, why do they need host managers and service host managers etc? i do have a BT broadband modem but i am needing that extra boot towards actually ordering it, ive been with AOL for about 4 years now and was hoping for broadband from them but im on the outside looking in now, can someone open the door please...........cinz

Yes, just go you've answered it for yourself, noticing connection problems along with bloatware installed on your PC, MOVE on to a more user friendly ISP.

I don't know the answers to your questions, it might be better to post them in the Broadband forum unless you get a reply here before you can do so. Congratulations on changing to BB! I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Madeline.

AOL can be a problem for a lot of people. I have to admit its software is very temperamental. I have been with AOL, Freeserve, IC24, Tesco, BT and im back with AOL again. I have to admit i would not go on AOL if i wanted DIalUP simple because it isn't reliable. However for Broadband they are spot on. Unlimited Bandwidth, and since the new Server upgrade they have its very fast as well. I remember a while back AOL used to say yes 1MB Broadband when it actually was no where near that. But the new servers are very good. On the software side of them if you dont know how to work the software inside out then you can come un stuck. But i have mastered their software and it gives me no trouble what so ever. I get great download speeds as they provide me with thats suppose to be a 2MB connection but i achieve greater speeds than that.
They also offer good services and features, the only thing that does let them down is TECH SUPPORT if you can call it that.

thanx for all the info, i would have been tempted to stay with AOL if they were able to supply broadband but as they cant, the dial up speeds are like watching paint dry, really slow, will see how it goes with BT who knows, maybe they will be able to beef up the speed so aol can get in on the action...........cinz

Good move with BT, hope you enjoy your experience. Remeber delete all that is AOL from your PC before your BT equipment arrives.

If AOL can't supply Broadband on your telephone line I don't quite see how BT can. Have they agrred to give you BB?

I agree with greysts. How can BT give you BB if AOL can't? My exchange is enabled, but I can't get BB due to the length of my line from the exchange. Before you commit yourself irrevocably to a contract with BT, it might be a good idea to go here, type your phone number into the box on the right hand side and see what it says about BB on your line. The thing is with BT, they'll accept an order even if it's very unlikely that you can get a decent BB connection; that's what it said for my line when I checked a little while ago. Madeline.

If one ADSL ISP can supply BB then the others will be able to I would click Madeline's link and check. Wanadoo were telling me for a while that I could get up to 1Mb speed even though others said 512k was the fastest and the latter proved to be true 512k was the fastest I can get Wanadoo now say the fastest I can get is 512k so don't be left with something you cannot use check before it is too late.

In reply to Alan098's original post.... be aware that light users can get dial-up elsewhere for as little as £5 per month, and heavy users can get dial-up for £6-99 per month. I think the £15-99 charged for dial-up by aol is over-the-top, and anyone paying that much, must be furious if they know that would-be-leavers are charged £9-99. On the bright side, aol are now providing dial-up with their own TopSpeed (similar to OnSpeed), which does speed-up surfing quite a lot. This means that someone paying £6-99 elsewhere plus £2 for OnSpeed, is paying £8-99, so his brother does have a reasonable deal at £9-99. Incidentally, broadband can be had for £9-99 if you google hard enough.
In reply to Cinz, and his email query..... When you leave aol, you will need to notify all your contacts about your new email address with your new ISP. Aol's policy is to allow you to keep receiving and storing any emails for six months, by which time you should have your new email arrangements in place.
One more comment.... Webuser is owned by IPC media, which in turn, is part of the AOL-TimeWarner group.
