Is anyone else having problems FTP'ing files to Wanadoo? I've been trying to update my site for days now and keep getting an error that says I have the wrong password. I've tried Terrapin, AceFTP and Frontpage all with the same result. I wan a do FTP but I can't. However, I can upload, file by file, using Wandadoo's sitebuilder web page which is tedious. So I know its not my password. I've tried contacting Wanadoo but mostly they where useless and didn't know anything with the exception of a guy on 0870 872 0099 where at least he acknowledged there was a problem. Does anyone else have anymore information ?
Keith, who posted here: Thankyou...web site revamped! seems to have the same issue as well.
Mark

I read in another link that Wanadoo have added a whole pile of IP addresses to there servers and then forgot to tell the rest of the world to accept these new addresses. Might be something to do with your problem.

I'm interested even if nobody else is! I use my Freeserve dial-up account as a backup should BB go down. I've just tried to register for my free web space with Wanadoo and it keeps telling me that my Freeserve email address is invalid despite the fact that I've just logged on to their email server using that address! I used the dialup connection just in case it wasn't happy with access from NTL BB but still no good.
I haven't called the help line yet. Your experience suggests it won't do me a lot of good if I did. Their must be other ex-Freeserve people out there with similar problems. Anyone....???
Just called the Help line - 'Hi my names Craig, all our our systems are down at the moment, would it be possible for you to call back in a couple of hours?'

I tired the new Wanadoo server last night with Terrapin FTP. It didn't work, I get the same error. My username seems to be recognised but my password is not. I was drunk after a night out and so just in case I was too drunk I tried again this morning, now hung over, and again the same error , error 530 login incorrect. Oh well, I guess I'm back into a long wait for an email from Wanadoo. Unless, an angle here knows something useful ???
Looks like someone has being doing some tidying up of the threads. Thanks. There's now two threads here by me on this subject !! The other appears to be locked.

I think I'm mainly talking to myself here but for the record, which is getting longern and longer:
I rang wanadoo again this morning and got passed from pillar to post by numpties After complaining about the premium rate number, it's blocked here at work, they they gave me a technical help line number that wasn't premium rate but required a password, which they had forgot to give me. . After more calls to obtain the password I had a friendly chat with someone who wanted to be helpful but wasn't and was finally told webspace support is only by email and should 24hr response time, as if . So, after half an hour of messing about on the phone I was back to square one with Wanadoo not even able to tell me if there was a general problem or if it was my settings. And so, I thought I'd ring Terrapin again, 0870 800 0808. What a refreshing change. No automated caller queues just a nice lady who immediately knew what the problem was. It's Wanadoo. And I'm not the only one. Terrapin themselves can't access the FTP servers either and have been on to Wanadoo. They said there's been a problem for a week now and Terrapin users have been ringing Terrapin. Funny that Wanadoo don't seem to be aware of a problem now but did last week. I was told everything was working fine by them this morning !!!!! The lady at Terrapin was interested in the new server name Wanadoo gave and was going to test it and let me know how they get on. I'll keep me and my readers posted

Wow, I'm impressed, a very speedy response from those nice Terrapin people, its only 15mins since the above post and they've tested and replied to me. [applause smiley if there was one]. I think I'm getting somewhere,,,, sort of :
Hi Mark Further to our telephone conversation I confirm that we are still unable to connect to our test freeserve account even using sitebuilder.wanadoo.co.uk. I will try and contact wanadoo again so give it a few days and try again. I just seen my own rear end !!!!!! . In another quest to discover if I am still only one a few that has problems FTP'ing to Wanadoo I did a Google and guess what,,, this thread was top of the list. Doh. Fame at last. . Either there are only a few of us with a problem or there's loads and they haven't yet tried to update their Freeserve sites by FTP, or people have got better things to do than mess about on the PC or ??? whatever. If the views for this thread shoot up I'll know why.

I've just tried logging on to my site again. This time it's a slightly different message. First time round it said my email address was wrong. Now it says it has encountered a problem and is dealing with it straight away. Yeah, right.

I have been having exactly the same problems as discussed here on this board. I have also contacted Wanadoo at least half a dozen times and still no joy! I can update my site by using their sitebuilder import files ok. However this is totally impractical when you have a large number of files, photographs etc to upload. Where do we go from here. All I can suggest is that we keep on e-mailing them until they take notice. So much for the bigger better No1 service we were supposed to receive on the re-branding of a perfectly good product.

I think TFC touched on where the problem lies. Wanadoo have bought a large tranche of IP addresses which they started to use before they were properly registered. That means we have been allocated an IP address for our web space but DNS servers all over the World do not recognise them so they don't patch through to the Wanadoo servers. How long it will take to sort out is anybody's guess because the solution isn't actually in Wanadoo's hands. These IP addresses have got to be registered by the world and his wife before we can use them. I assume the SiteBuilder files are 'in-house' so to speak so if you log on to Wanadoo and then to SiteBuilder it can find your web space. Because FTP servers are coming from outside they have no knowledge of these IP addresses.

ooooo, someone at Wanadoo is listening , at last. Just got the this email, within 24hrs like they said
Hi ,
Thank you for your email.
We are currently investigating the matter and will take the necessary action shortly. Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us again.
Kind Regards
Wanadoo Technical Support
It doesn't say whats wrong, who's responsible nor any hint as to when it will be fixed
Wanadoo could have just posted on their web page something like ' there is an FTP an problem please be v. patient etc etc'. Oh, AND told their staff on the help lines whats up. Is this service the price we pay for dealing with a large company ? Are smaller ones any better ?
I Wan a doo FTP but I can't
Is anyone getting a more useful response from Wanadoo or FTP software peolpe ?

Heh, I've just been promoted to a 'regular'. I know its not personal but thanks anyway. The guys on these forums seem useful, helpful and friendly. I think I'll stick around when the Wanadoo thing is sorted.
I've only just begun to learn this web stuff and I've got lots of questions

3 WEEKS 15-20 'E' MAILS. NO LUCK GETTING THROUGH ON THE PHONE. ONE SNAIL MAIL AND I GET... We are looking into your problem and will get back to you as soon as possible. If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us again. Kind Regards Wanadoo Technical Support REF:WOOTS I know all we want are our web sites back or or an FTP that works BUT... Surely we must look into the legalities of a service not being provided? At the begining of the week I 'e' mailed web-user to ask if they would use their clout to put pressure on Wand... I have not heard from them either. Perhaps if we all direct our queery to WU they might take it up?
Keith.

I've been having this problem as well.
I registered for Wanadoo but did not let them install anything on my computer (as their software wanted to do) as I prefer to configure my system myself rather than have some software try and install "branding" etc.
Whilst the email account I have works fine & I successfully registered for my webspace I have had no success in ftp'ing onto it. :-((
I am using ftp explorer and the host address: sitebuilder.wanadoo.co.uk
I have my username setup as :user@username.wanadoo.co.uk|username
where "user" & "username" are the actual names.
I am connecting using an old Freeserve account then trying to FTP to my wanadoo web space but get kicked off at the login (password I think) stage like everyone else on here. I must go and check the Wanadoo dial up number & try that as I suppose using an old freeserve connection might not be helping things.
Anyway, this seems a good place to keep up to date with events so I'll keep checking to back see if anyone has any success & I will post here if I am ever successful.
I just wannaftp .... LOL !!!

Just been trawling around and found a whole bunch of people with the same problem at Wanadoo, Internet forum "Can't log on to FTP my site" . I'd given up on their forums as they had been taken off at the start of the FTP problem. I'll try to redirect them here as this thread has more answers to their questions. Not sure if this is good practise but I'll give it a go anyway.
