From Cologne Cathedral to Yellowstone National Park, Google’s World Wonders Project brings together 132 sites of historical, natural and architectural interest, and lets you explore them from the comfort of your PC.

You can browse the wonders by location or theme, such as Monuments & Memorials and Palaces & Castles, or just spin the globe on the homepage and click a random marker. Street View imagery of each site immerses you in that location, offering a choice of four views and the usual zoom and navigation controls.

However, it’s the extra content that really makes this website worthwhile: you can read information about each wonder, view professional and amateur photos and videos, and even see 3D models of many buildings and landmarks.

With a perhap surprising number of sites in the UK, including Stonehenge, Selby Abbey and Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, it’s a great way to enrich your cultural knowledge without having to pay or queue for the privilege.
